Spokane Partnership Project

Spokane, Washington, Partnership Project study areaWhat began as one of the original The National Map Pilot projects has developed into a highly successful collaboration between the USGS; Spokane, Pend Oreille, Kootenai, and Bonner Counties; Coeur d'Alene Tribe, University of Idaho, U.S. Forest Service, Avista Energy Corporation, and DigitalAnno Corporation. Through this partnership, data that were incompatible, inaccessible, encumbered by licensing restrictions, and/or out of date are now available to the public in the form of an online interactive, seamless map. For example, the USGS is coordinating with the public-private Spokane imagery consortium to make high-resolution imagery that is normally encumbered by license restrictions accessible for homeland security purposes and for public access through The National Map. The project partners are moving toward a long-term maintenance and enhancement plan, and negotiations are continuing for Spokane County to eventually serve the data directly to The National Map from their local servers.
